Knoxville, TN – Today, President Leonard L. Adams Jr. of Knoxville College announced his decision to step down from his role as President of Knoxville College. His departure marks the end of a transformative chapter for the college, characterized by significant progress and development under his leadership.
In his letter to the Knoxville College Board of Trustees, President Adams expressed his deep gratitude for the support and collaboration he has received throughout his tenure. "Serving as President of Knoxville College has been an extraordinary honor and a profound privilege. Together we have navigated significant challenges, celebrated numerous achievements, and laid the groundwork for a brighter future for our students and community," Adams stated.
President Adams highlighted the collective efforts of faculty, students, alumni, and supporters, acknowledging their dedication and contributions to the college's mission. "Your commitment to Knoxville College has been an endless source of inspiration. Whether through financial contributions, volunteer efforts, or advocacy, you have demonstrated a steadfast belief in our mission and the transformative power of education," he added.
Dr. Michael V. Bowie, Chair of the Knoxville College Board of Trustees, praised President Adams for his unwavering commitment to excellence and his visionary leadership. "President Adams has been instrumental in guiding Knoxville College through a critical period of growth and change. His dedication to the college's mission and his ability to foster a culture of excellence have been truly remarkable," Dr. Bowie commented. "Under his leadership, Knoxville College has made significant strides towards fully reopening and achieving our long- term goals including Board approval of the TRACS accreditation package. We are profoundly grateful for his service and wish him the very best in his future endeavors."
Although President Adams’ term ends on June 30, 2024, Dr. Bowie also announced that President Adams has agreed to remain in his position until September 30, 2024, ensuring a
smooth transition and continued momentum for the college. "We are grateful for President Adams' commitment to stay on until a successor is in place. This continuity will allow us to maintain our progress and continue building on the strong foundation he has established."
In addition, Dr. Bowie revealed that a Presidential Search Committee has been selected. This committee includes trustees, alumni, faculty, higher education leadership, and a representative from the Synod of the Living Waters (Presbyterian Church USA), reflecting a broad and inclusive approach to identifying the next leader of Knoxville College.
Brenda Gardner, President of the Knoxville College Alumni Association, also expressed her appreciation for President Adams' leadership. "President Adams has been a beacon of hope and progress for Knoxville College. His dedication and tireless efforts have revitalized our beloved institution and brought us closer to our vision of a fully thriving college. The alumni community is deeply grateful for his service and commitment."
As Knoxville College embarks on the search for a new leader, President Adams assured the community of his commitment to ensuring a smooth transition. "I am confident that Knoxville
College is well-positioned to continue its journey of growth and excellence. The strength of our faculty, the resilience of our students, and the support of our alumni and community give me great optimism for the future," Adams expressed.
While President Adams will be stepping down, his dedication to Knoxville College remains steadfast. He plans to continue supporting and advocating for the institution he has served with passion and dedication.
